Viet Minh supported an independent and war free Laos from which they could obtain food.

In addition, the British are the main force aiding the French reconquest of Indochina. They are reestablishing colonial rule lost following the German defeat by the French in 1940. The British did the same for the Dutch in Indonesia.

Ho Chi Minh is a communist and the French don't want the Americans to forget that. The French believe the US naive about communism in Indochina.
But the Vietnamese government officials note that they have not confiscated property or received aid from Russia; this is a "bourgeois revolution" they say.
