The Viet Minh attacks on the rubber plantations successfully lower production although native and French troops guard rubber plantations. There is a French sentry post eleven miles from a Viet Minh position. (Life March 7, 1949)
The Viet Minh are "resourceful." The Vietnamese have applied scorched earth tactics extensively.(George Sheldon. "The Unity of Vietnam." Far Eastern Survey. June 2, 1948.)
Note, Sheldon calls them Vietnamese, not communists.
Many write of the "Communist-led" Viet Minh soldiers using homemade bombs and out of date rifles in their black pajamas but the Viet Minh obtained weapons of the defeated Japanese army and were militarily capable of challenging the French.
